AFCON 2025 SET TO LIGHT UP AFRICAN FOOTBALL

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Africa’s biggest football spectacle, is set to take center stage in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. This edition marks the 35th staging of the continent’s premier men’s international football tournament and promises a month of high-level competition, passion, and continental pride.

A total of 24 national teams will participate in the finals, continuing the expanded format that has enhanced competitiveness and inclusivity across African football. The teams are drawn into six groups of four, with the top two teams in each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, advancing to the knockout stages.

The tournament structure follows a clear and exciting pathway: group stage, Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, a third-place playoff, and the final, where the new champions of Africa will be crowned.

Morocco, one of Africa’s most experienced football hosts, will stage matches across multiple modern stadiums in different cities, showcasing its world-class infrastructure and football heritage. The hosting of AFCON 2025 further strengthens Morocco’s growing reputation as a key destination for major international football events.

The Africa Cup of Nations has a rich and evolving history. First held in 1957 with just three teams, the competition has grown steadily over the decades to become one of the most prestigious tournaments in world football. The expansion to 24 teams reflects the depth and growth of the game across the continent.

Historically, Egypt remains the most successful nation in AFCON history with seven titles, while several other countries have used the tournament as a launchpad for global football recognition. AFCON has long been celebrated not only for its silverware but also for its role in producing iconic players and unforgettable football moments.

As AFCON 2025 approaches, expectations are high for thrilling matches, passionate fan support, and the emergence of new heroes. Once again, the tournament will unite Africa through football, reaffirming AFCON’s place as the heartbeat of the continent’s sporting calendar.
